Andy Timmons Band is releasing their eighth album, “Theme From a Perfect World.” Co-produced by virtuoso guitarist Andy Timmons and his longtime bassist Mike Daane, the album features 10 all-new tracks of melodic guitar instrumentals that Timmons hopes will touch an emotional chord in every listener. In addition to Daane on bass, the album features Rob Avsharian on drums as well as original Andy Timmons Band drummer Mike Marine, who appears on five tracks.
Andy Timmons—who’s played with the likes of Danger Danger, Kip Winger, Simon Phillips, and Olivia Newton-John–says he wanted the new album to be both modern and vintage at the same time. The band is touring the U.S. starting October 1 in Dallas, TX and concluding October 24 in New York City on October 24. Here are some of Andy’s top places in the U.S., which includes New York City, where he lived in Flushing, Queens for a few years.
My favorite place in the U.S. to visit is…New York City! I lived in Flushing, Queens for three years in the early ’90s during my tenure in the band Danger Danger and I fell in love with the city and its people. I live in Texas now, but fortunately I play concerts in NYC at least twice a year so I can catch up with old friends and get a fix of some great Chinese food and pizza, of course. Plus as a great fan of jazz, there are always great shows to see when I have a night off.
The first thing I do when I go to (above place) is I go to…Strawberry Fields in Central Park near the Dakota. As a lifelong Beatles fan, I really enjoy going to “visit” John Lennon and sing some songs with all the other tourists there to pay tribute. This is one of those moments…I love the spontaneity of everybody joining in. That’s the magic of Strawberry Fields.
Years ago, I hand-delivered a letter to the Dakota for Yoko expressing my gratitude to her for the amazing work she has done handling John’s music catalog and legacy. She gets bashed a lot in the press, but I truly believe she is a greatly intelligent and creative person. She was perfect for John. A few years later I received a signed CD cover from Yoko. What a treasure.
Everyone should visit …New York City…at least once…because there is no other place like it on the planet! So much energy, art, music, creativity, diversity and passion.
My favorite restaurant in the U.S. is…Shun Lee Palace in Manhattan. Really nice Chinese on the up-scale side. One of my NYC traditions. The Moo Shu pork is tremendous!
The best place to find…The beef taco…is at…Herrera’s in Dallas. There are so many great Tex-Mex places, but this is my favorite “down and dirty” Tex Mex…great hot sauce and bean soup, too.
Some great towns people may not know about that they should visit are …Louisville, Portland, Austin and Minneapolis are a few examples of amazing cities that are very much supportive of locally owned businesses which help create the uniqueness of each town that America is so in danger of losing.
Czech Stop on I35 between Dallas and Austin…is a great truck stop, it’s on what (road)and I love this place because…One of a kind vibe and fantastic Kolaches.
My favorite airport in the US is…Love Field in Dallas. Still a lovely smaller airport and they now have a Campisi’s in their food court…my favorite pizza!
