On his new EP ‘Stones, Bones, and Skin’ out Aug. 18, singer-songwriter Adam Zwig blends a hypnotic and harmonious hybrid of Americana, pop, rock, folk and world music. It contains five tracks produced by the Grammy Award-winning David Bianco (Bob Dylan, U2, Johnny Cash) and Stuart Sikes (The White Stripes, Loretta Lynn). Here are some of Adam’s favorite places in America…
My favorite place in the U.S. to visit is…the Oregon coast – wild, untamed mountains and forest hugging the ocean! It never got built up with a lot of hotels and such because it rains all the time. But it’s green and gorgeous.
The first thing I do when I go to Oregon is I go to…the beach…super wide deserted beaches with nothing but driftwood and sand dunes. It’s not a swimming ocean unless you like to freeze, but you can walk for miles and it’s just you and nature. The beaches get more crowded near the hotspots like Cannon Beach and Seaside, but if you go further north or south it’s just ocean, sand, and trees.
Everyone should visit …New York City…at least once…because it’s not really America, it’s the world as a microcosm. You will see and hear every kind of person from every culture, every language and every attitude imaginable. When you go to a restaurant you don’t get American – Italian or American- Greek, you get real Italian and real Greek food!
Austin, Texas…is a great place if you like music and a lively atmosphere. There’s a street with bars and clubs lined up beside each other and they all have their doors open, and out of each venue blasts a live band. So the street becomes a crazy cacophony of sound.
My favorite restaurant in the U.S. is…the Otis Cafe in Otis, Oregon. I can never figure out if Otis is a real town. If it is, the population can’t be more than 10 people. If you blink you miss it. The cafe is a run down diner that everyone loves for its authenticity and killer breakfasts.
The best place to eat lobster is at… the Clam Shack in Kennebunkport, Maine. You must try the lobster roll!
A great town people may not know about is… Asheville, North Carollna was such a cool place. It’s beautiful, nestled in the mountains, and is a pretty hip town.
The Iowa 80 Truck Stop…is a great truck stop. It’s in Walcott, Iowa. It’s got a crazy truck museum all blinged out with chrome and lights. And for the truckers it’s got a dentist and a dog wash, which is pretty cool.
My favorite airport in the U.S. is…O’Hare in Chicago because of the multicultural atmosphere and its great exhibits throughout the airport. Plus, I get mesmerized by the player piano that plays by itself there.
