Celebrity Travel Spotlight: Mikey Wax

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know we like SiriusXm satellite radio. It’s awesome, especially when you’re in the car a lot, because you can always count on the channels that you like.

Love channel was turned into Holly too fast for my liking back in November. But, as I do every year, I succumb to it, and am I glad I tuned in because it was so thrilling to stumble upon a new find! It’s a song called “And A Happy New Year” by Mikey Wax. I’d never heard of him before. It sounded so retro, so 1950’s and 1960’s mellow, that I immediately iTuned it and it’s been on repeat mode ever since! This is sure to be a Christmas classic. It’s a grab a cup of cocoa, sit by the fire music.

I thought he was some veteran musician from back in the day, but it turns out he’s young and it’s a brand new song that just dropped in November! Here are Mikey’s favorite places in America…

My favorite place in the U.S. to visit is...Austin,Texas. It’s a charming city with Great music, art, bbq, sunshine, and beautiful women. Not much more else you need!

The first thing I do when I go to Austin is I go to…Iron Works for some BBQ!

Everyone should visit…Nashville, Tennessee…at least once. I went to college in Nashville, and really fell in love with the city. I find Nashville is a great melting pot of America, with people from both coasts and everywhere in between. It’s an entertainment capital, always something to do, and the downtown scene is always fun if you can remember it the next day.

Birmingham, Alabama…is a pleasant surprise. My first visit to this town I fell in love with the artsy/southern charm and the friendly people. I wound up writing a song called “Birmingham” after my first show there, and it remains one of my favorites to play.

My favorite restaurant in the U.S. is…Del Frisco’s steak house in nyc! Besides the incredible steak, its usually the one meal every member of my family will leave open in their schedule so it’s a good time to see everyone.

The best place to find…late night pizza in NYC is Artichoke on 14th and 3rd. There’s a reason the line is around the corner at 3 a.m. even in the winter! I’ve burned the roof of my mouth there many nights.

Some great towns people may not know but should visit are…besides Austin and Birmingham, definitely NOLA. Incredible music, bars, etc. Scottsdale, Arizona is a really cool spot with great restaurants and clubs.

My favorite airport in the US is…Las Vegas airport, because I can play the slots when my flight’s delayed. Dallas actually has a really nice airport you can practically live there. However, No. 1 is La Guardia because there’s no place like home after a long tour.
