Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport
The international airport in Atlanta has been named the busiest airport in the world since 1998. Now, nearly fourteen years later, it still holds that title by serving over 89 million airline passengers a year. It is an international hub and destination airport for travelers from all over the globe and while Atlanta’s economy ranks 15th in the world, the airport is also a hub for businessmen and women in the areas of business services, media operations, and even government administration. The 1996 Summer Olympics- Centennial Olympic Park
Unofficially titled the Centennial Olympics, the 1996 Summer Olympic Games held in Atlanta put this global city even more on the worldwide map. These Olympic Games greeting over 10,000 athletes from a record nearly 200 nations and jump started Atlanta as a place of global peace and union. To honor and remember the Olympic Games, Atlanta has created the Centennial Olympic Park as a place to embrace the global spirit embodied while the games were held. This park features unique sculptures and fountains, including the world famous, Ring of Fountains. The Ring of Fountains is located inside the park, and is an incredible water sculpture surrounded with a ring of flags from the 197 countries that participated in the Atlanta Olympic Games. The park and the Ring of Fountains were created to display a spirit of sportsmanship and kindness as well as the perfect atmosphere for a worldwide community.
World of Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola is served and sold in over 200 countries across the world and is based in the heart of Atlanta. This once small soda company has risen up from Atlanta’s business community to become a leader in a world business market but they had continued to stay true to their Georgia roots. To honor Coca-Cola’s long history in “The New York of the South,” Atlanta is home to the World of Coca-Cola historical center and museum. This interactive museum is home to thousands of pieces of Coca-Cola memorabilia and features a guest entrance playing Coke commercial jingles from the last 60 years as an advertising corporation. The museum also displays several giant Coca-Cola bottles made from worldly and unique materials as well as a vault that is home to the famous Coca-Cola secret soda formula. World visitors to the museum all have the chance to view how the bottling process works and enjoy a mini bottle of the globally acclaimed drink.
The World’s Largest Aquarium
Atlanta is not only home to the busiest international airport in the world but also the largest aquarium found on the planet. The aquarium in Atlanta, named the Georgia Aquarium, is home to over 500 species of animals and a total of 120,000 marine creatures. It features 10 million gallons of salt and freshwater that is home to whale sharks, bottlenose dolphins, manta rays and beluga whales. The aquarium is also home to the second largest viewing window in the world and allows its guests to participate in diving programs called Journey with Gentle Giants to get up close and personal with these marine animals that can be found all over the globe.
CNN’s global studio, located in Atlanta serves more than 212 countries, 1 billion people each day and continues Atlanta’s role in the global community. CNN Worldwide offers tours to Atlanta’s residents and guests with a 55 minute walking tour that shows global news being made. CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta is also home to the world’s longest free standing escalator and allow visitors to see the world from a news point of view.
